Turkey Latest Update in COVID-19 Restrictions

Turkey Travel and Entry Restrictions 2021: COVID-19 Update

We have listed the newest restrictions regarding persons incoming to Turkey from other countries. These restrictions are starting from 4th September 2021.

For people coming from Brazil, South Africa, Nepal, and Sri Lanka 

  • As a result, until a new judgment is made, the practice of suspending flights to Brazil, South Africa, Nepal, and Sri Lanka will continue. Direct travel to Turkey from Brazil, South Africa, Nepal, and Sri Lanka will be forbidden.
  • Passengers entering Turkey from another country but found to have visited Brazil, South Africa, Nepal, or Sri Lanka in the previous 14 days will be asked to submit a negative PCR test report taken no more than 72 hours prior to their arrival, and they will be quarantined for 14 days in locations determined by the governorate. The quarantine will be terminated if the PCR test result on the 14th day of the quarantine is negative. Those who have a positive PCR test result will be segregated from the day the test result is positive, and the measure will stop when the PCR test returns negative at the conclusion of the 14th day.

For persons who are coming from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan 

  • will be required to submit a negative PCR test result a maximum of 72 hours prior to entry. Those who came directly from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan and those who were found to have been in these countries in the last 14 days; Those who have at least two doses (single dose for Johnson & Johnson) of the vaccines approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization (when minimum 14 days have passed since the last dose) will be exempted from the quarantine.
  • People who cannot demonstrate that they have received at least two doses (single dose for Johnson & Johnson) of the vaccines approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization or Turkey and that at least 14 days have passed since the last dose, will be quarantined at their home or at the address they will declare, and will be tested again on the tenth day of the quarantine. The quarantine will be lifted if the PCR test results on the tenth day are negative. Those who do not have a PCR test on the tenth day will be quarantined for fourteen days. If the test findings are positive, the existing pandemic protocols shall be followed.

People travelling from the UK, Iran, Egypt and Singapore

  • will be required to submit a negative PCR test report up to 72 hours before entry.
  • Those who certify that they have received at least two doses (single dose for Johnson & Johnson) of the vaccines approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization or Turkey at all border gates and who document that at least 14 days have passed since the last dose will be exempt from quarantine. Starting from the 28th day of the first positive test result, PCR/rapid antigen test report with a negative result will not be requested and quarantine measures will not be applied for those who submit a document issued by the relevant country's official authorities that they have had the disease in the last 6 months.
  • If a PCR test report with a negative result made within a maximum of 72 hours before the entry or with a negative rapid antigen test result made within a maximum of 48 hours from the entry cannot be presented when entering Turkey from these countries, a PCR test report with a negative result made within a maximum of 72 hours before the entry, or with a negative rapid antigen test result made within a maximum of 48 hours from the entry will be requested.

Children under the age of 12 will be exempted from a vaccination certificate and a PCR/Antigen test report when they enter Turkey.

Aircraft-ship crews, seafarers regarded as critical workers, and truck drivers will be exempt from the "SARSCoV2 PCR test" and quarantine application to avoid disrupting international trade.

Documents such as vaccine certificate, PCR/Antigen test result to be requested upon entry to Turkey will be checked before the journey for passengers arriving by air and sea, and for passengers arriving by land/railway by public transport.

New Rules for Turkish Citizens Coming to Turkey from Abroad

  • Turkish citizens will be allowed to enter the country if they can prove that they have received two doses of the vaccination and that it has been at least 14 days since the last shot, or that they have had the disease within the last six months. Turkish individuals with a negative PCR test result obtained no more than 72 hours before entry or a negative fast antigen test result obtained no more than 48 hours before entry will also be permitted to enter.
  • Those who are unable to show the required document or test results will be permitted to return home once the PCR test is performed at the border gates, while those who have a positive test result will be isolated in their home. 
  • Citizens, who are allowed to enter the country in this way, will be isolated at their destination in a manner to be determined by the Ministry of Health, and isolation will continue until they submit a negative PCR test report.

  • PCR Test Obligation to Attend Some Activities in TurkeyFor people who have not been vaccinated; a PCR test with a negative result will be required for residents to participate in events such as concerts, cinemas, and theatres starting on Monday, September 6, 2021. 
  • At the entrance to the events, operators/organizers will be asked about the vaccinated/past disease (according to the period of scientific immunity following Covid-19 disease) or the negative PCR test completed no more than 48 hours ago, using the HES code.
  • They will not be allowed to participate in the event if they have never had the disease, are not vaccinated, or have a negative PCR test.
  • Intercity trips by airline, bus, rail, or other public vehicles, excluding private cars, by those who are not vaccinated or have had the disease will also be subjected to a negative PCR test. In this context, beginning Monday, September 6, 2021, travel companies will question the vaccinated/past disease (according to the time that is scientifically considered immune after Covid-19 disease) or the negative PCR test performed a maximum of 48 hours ago, via the HES code, at the stage of vehicle admission. These people will not be allowed to travel if they have never had the disease, are not vaccinated, or have a negative PCR test.

The COVID-19 related restrictions during some mentioned activities in Turkey will be applied to all citizens and residents of Turkey. Tourists are exempt from COVID-19 restrictions.
